how to put on hockey socks

Putting on hockey socks is an essential part of getting dressed for a hockey game or practice. Here’s how to properly put on hockey socks:

Materials You’ll Need:

  • Hockey socks
  • Athletic or compression shorts (optional)
  • Hockey pants or girdle (optional)
  • Hockey shin guards
  • Hockey skates

Steps:

  1. Prepare Your Legs:
    • If you prefer, you can wear athletic or compression shorts under your hockey socks. Some players find this more comfortable. Alternatively, you can wear your hockey pants or girdle, which covers the lower body and holds up the socks.
  2. Put on Your Shin Guards:
    • Before putting on the hockey socks, make sure you have your shin guards in place. Slide the shin guards up your legs and position them so that they cover your shins and knees properly. They should fit snugly but not be so tight that they restrict movement.
  3. Roll Down the Top of the Socks:
    • Start by rolling down the top of the hockey socks to create a cuff. This cuff will go over the top of your shin guards to hold them in place.
  4. Insert Your Foot:
    • Place your foot into the open end of the sock. Make sure the sock is oriented correctly, with the correct side facing out. Typically, there will be a logo or design on the front of the sock.
  5. Pull Up the Sock:
    • Begin pulling the sock up your leg, starting from the bottom. Be sure to cover the entire length of the shin guard. The sock should fit snugly around your leg without wrinkles.
  6. Adjust the Cuff:
    • Once the sock is pulled up, unfold the cuff over the top of the shin guard to secure it in place. The cuff should cover the top of the shin guard and keep it from slipping down during play.
  7. Repeat for the Other Leg:
    • Repeat the same process for your other leg, ensuring that the sock fits snugly and covers the shin guard completely.
  8. Check for Comfort:
    • Make sure the socks and shin guards are comfortable and not too tight or too loose. Adjust them as needed to ensure a secure and comfortable fit.
  9. Put on Your Hockey Skates:
    • After you have your socks and shin guards in place, put on your hockey skates as usual. The socks should fit comfortably inside the skates, and the shin guards should remain in position.
  10. Double-Check Your Gear:
    • Before hitting the ice, double-check that all your gear, including the socks, shin guards, skates, and other equipment, is properly secured and comfortable.

Properly fitting hockey socks help keep your shin guards in place and protect your legs during games and practices. It’s essential to ensure a snug but not overly tight fit for comfort and protection.
