how to poche walls in revit

In Autodesk Revit, “poche” is a term often used in the context of creating wall thicknesses, which means representing the actual thickness of walls in your building model. Adding wall thickness or “poche” can improve the visual representation of your model. Here’s how to poche walls in Revit:

Note: The specific steps may vary slightly depending on the version of Revit you are using, but the general process remains consistent.

1. Open Your Revit Project:

  • Launch Autodesk Revit and open the project you want to work on.

2. Access the “Edit Type” Dialog:

  • Select a wall in your project by clicking on it. Make sure you choose the specific wall type that you want to add thickness to.
  • Right-click on the selected wall, and in the context menu, choose “Edit Type.”

3. Duplicate the Wall Type:

  • In the “Edit Type” dialog, you’ll see various parameters for the wall type. Locate the “Duplicate” button, and click it to create a new wall type based on the existing one.

4. Rename the New Wall Type:

  • After duplicating, you’ll have a new wall type that is a copy of the original. Rename it to indicate that it has a “poche” or increased thickness. This will help you easily identify it.

5. Adjust the Wall Thickness:

  • In the “Edit Type” dialog, look for the parameter that controls the wall’s thickness. This parameter is usually called “Width” or “Thickness.”
  • Increase the value of this parameter to represent the desired thickness of the wall. You can adjust it to match the real-world thickness of the wall you are modeling. Keep in mind that units are important, so make sure you use the correct unit of measurement (e.g., feet or inches).

6. Modify the Graphics Style (Optional):

  • Depending on your project requirements, you may want to modify the graphics style of the “poche” wall type to differentiate it visually from the standard wall type. This can be done by adjusting parameters such as the material, pattern, or color of the “poche” wall.

7. Apply the New Wall Type:

  • Once you’ve created and adjusted the “poche” wall type, click “OK” to close the “Edit Type” dialog.
  • Select the walls in your project that you want to assign the “poche” thickness to.
  • In the Properties palette, find the “Type” parameter or dropdown menu for the selected walls.
  • Choose the newly created “poche” wall type to apply it to the selected walls.

8. View the Results:

  • Switch to a 3D view or a plan view that displays the walls to see the changes. You should now see the walls with the increased thickness you applied.

By following these steps, you can create wall types with increased thickness, commonly referred to as “poche,” in your Revit project to better represent the actual construction of the walls. This is particularly useful for creating detailed and accurate architectural models.
