How to Plan a China Silk Road Tour

China Silk Road Tour covers magnificent scenery spanning thousands of miles for you to explore! The natural beauty, rich history and culture, and unique folklore experience along the way will make your China tours full of fun.

Popular Destinations

As the ancient capital of the 13th Dynasty, Xi’an is the starting point of the Silk Road and is rich in historical relics, such as the Terracotta Warriors and Horses, the Ancient City Wall and the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Travel along the Yellow River and arrive at Lanzhou. You can visit the Yellow River Iron Bridge and Gansu Provincial Museum.

Zhangye is famous for its Colorful Danxia landforms, with colorful mountains like God’s overturned palette. The Mogao Caves can be visited on a Dunhuang tour, boasting a large number of exquisite murals and sculptures. The Mingsha Mountain Crescent Spring is also a must-see attraction, where sandy mountains and springs are interdependent, forming a unique desert spectacle.

Accommodation & Dining

Choose a hotel close to attractions or the city center for easy access to sightseeing and local cuisine. Consider booking a B&B or inn with local specialties to experience a more authentic Chinese culture.

You can also try local specialties during your trip. Taste local specialties such as mutton buns, cold skin and meat sandwiches in Xi’an. In Lanzhou, the authentic Lanzhou beef noodle is a must-try, and you can also sample local drinks such as Yellow River Beer.Meanwhile, pay attention to food safety.

Transportation

The Silk Road covers an extensive region, allowing tourists to select suitable transportation based on their specific circumstances. Trains, cars and airplanes have their own advantages and disadvantages, and tourists can choose according to their needs and budget. You can choose flights to Xi’an, Lanzhou, Urumqi and other cities as the starting point or transit point of your journey.

There are several train stations along the Silk Road. You can choose train as your transportation and admire the scenery along the way. For tourists who enjoy traveling at their own pace, a chartered bus tour can be an ideal choice. You have the freedom to halt wherever you wish to soak in the scenery, but it’s important to keep an eye on road conditions and prioritize driving safety.

Notes

When visiting the attractions, pay attention to abide by the regulations of the scenic spots and do not climb or touch the cultural relics at will. In areas along the Silk Road, especially ethnic minority areas, respect local customs and cultural traditions.

The temperature difference in the northwest region is large, so you need to bring enough clothes and sunscreen products. In remote areas, cell phone signals may be unreliable or non-existent. It’s advisable to research the local communication status beforehand and equip yourself with necessary communication tools or emergency applications.
